When your baby is teething, it can be so miserable for the baby and for you too. The baby is fussy and in pain. You want to help the precious little thing but what can you do to help them not be so miserable? Smile Reef is here to help you know a few things you can try to help ease your baby’s pain.
Apply Gentle Pressure to Gums
This sounds very simple but it can help. Make sure you have washed and cleaned your hands. Also, you don’t want to have long fingernails with this one because you could scratch your baby’s mouth. With this helpful tip, you want to put light pressure on the baby’s gums with your finger and rub the gums. This will cause a soothing sensation for their teething mouth helping them have temporary relief from their pain. And hopefully helping them to sleep a little better.
Offer Cold Teethers & Other Teething Toys
When you use cold baby teethers or something cold on your baby’s teeth this can cause a numbing effect on the hurting gums. You can even use something as simple as a cold wet or frozen washcloth that you can let your baby chew/suck on. Another idea is if your baby is old enough you can give them cold apple sauce or frozen fruit. This will help give them that relief from the cold. If you go with the food tip to help give them relief, make sure you clean their teeth before bed.
Pain Medication
If you have tried gentle pressure and cold teethers and your baby is still acting like they are in pain don’t be afraid to give your baby pain medication. Talk to your pediatric dentist or doctor about what they recommend for your baby with over-the-counter medicine. Depending on the age of your baby you can give your baby Tylenol or ibuprofen. Make sure you talk to their doctor so you know the correct dosage. This can help with their pain from teething.
Maintain Routine
Your baby can be in the teething phase for a while. You want to make sure you maintain a good routine for your baby. If your baby is sleeping don’t wake your baby up to give them medication because you think they are in pain. Make sure you do what you can to make your baby comfortable before bed. Then if your child wakes up and it is time for more medication then you can give them medication. It is important to try and keep your baby on a good sleeping schedule. This will help you and your baby.
